I just finished reading "Shaman" by Noah Gordon. It is a historical novel set in the early 1800's up to the finish of the civil war. Indian country in Illinois. A life of a country doctor, Robert J. Cole. How he became a country doctor, buying land in Holden's Crossing, met his wife and had a family. The Sauk Indians lived on his land. Helped raise his children. The author goes in to detail about the lead up to the civel war from the doctor's point of view as well as his deaf son's. How one son fought for the South and Dr. Cole fought for the North. It's about family, love, honor...I encouage you to read it! Tell me what you think.
